The wine is a deep, dark ruby to purple color. The very enticing nose has blackberries, licorice, smoked meat, black pepper, baking spices, blueberry, dried herbs, minerals and dark chocolate. This has medium to full body with moderate tannins and very nice acidity. Spicy fruit with a nice meaty presence grabs hold of your palate with pepper and some earthiness coming in later. This has a nice lingering finish which again highlights the meaty elements with chocolate and fruit in the background providing nice sweetness. This is very nice with impressive balance. This wine has 14.2% alcohol by volume and the bottle is sealed with a natural cork.
Matanzas Creek's track record with Sauvignon Blanc is solid and certainly won't be diminished by this beauty from the Alexander Valley in the 2016 vintage. For one thing, it exhibits remarkable complexity for a Sauvignon (with a touch of Semillon in the blend). On the nose grassy notes emerge with hints of citrus and peach. On the palate there's an additional note of fig. Well balanced and showing excellent length, this is a Sauvignon that will pair well with grilled fowl and Mediterranean tapas, or simply as a summer quaffer.
The Cabernet Sauvignon Trueman offers an effusive bouquet of dark red fruit with hints of Christmas cake spices. It is huge and mouth filling, very broad and polished with firm underlying tannins. It is also rich and spicy at this stage of development.
FUTURES TASTING HIGHLIGHTS: EXCELLENT QUALITY OF 2016 SUPER TUSCANS Plenty of dark fruit and spice character. Medium to full body, chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Very balanced young wine.
FUTURES TASTING HIGHLIGHTS: EXCELLENT QUALITY OF 2016 SUPER TUSCANS Very fine and linear with polished and creamy tannins. Medium body. A clean and fresh. Wait and see.

Pale to medium ruby-purple in color, the 2015 Pinot Noir Sierra Mar Vineyard has a broody nose of charcoal and black soil over hints of red cherries and rhubarb plus a meaty/gamy element showing through. The palate is tightly wound at this youthful stage, with firm, chewy tannins and a lively line of acid cutting through the dense earth and savory layers, finishing with great persistence. This well-structured wine should drink best with another year in bottle and will cellar for 7-9 years beyond this.
Pale to medium ruby-purple colored, the 2015 Pinot Noir Rosella's Vineyard has a very pretty floral nose of roses and violets over a core of kirsch, pomegranate and wild strawberries with hints of sautéed herbs and tar. The 2016 Chardonnay Spear Vineyard has pristine, unadulterated and fresh lemongrass, orange blossom and white peach notes with touches of wet pebbles and coriander seed. Intense in its color and distinctive in every way, the 2015 Pinot Noir Mesa Terrace is also one of the highlights among these new releases from Cambria. Dark cherry, blackberry, lavender and exotic spice give the 2015 its bold voice. Expressive floral and spice notes add lift to this super-expressive, creamy wine, which continues to develop with time in the glass. Dark, rich and intense, the Mesa Terrace will have plenty to say over the next decade or so.
The 2015 Pinot Noir Element emerges from a single block on the eastern side of the ranch. There is good depth and intensity, but I am not sure the Element is materially different from some of the other wines in the range. In 2015, it offers real weight and gravitas to match its dark fruit profile and brooding personality.
The 2014 Pinot Noir Clone 2A is terrific. Sweet red cherry, hard candy, plum and creamy tannins give the wine its voluptuous, racy personality. All the elements come together nicely in this sleek, pliant Pinot Noir. It is one of the more overtly ripe wines in this lineup, and yet all of the elements meld together seamlessly.
The 2014 Syrah Tepusquet Vineyard is one of the most compelling wines in this range. Rich and explosive, with layers of dark fruit that build effortlessly, it possesses superb intensity and volume. It also appears to have more than enough depth to handle the 100% new French oak. The 2014 was done with fully destemmed fruit.
The 2015 Chardonnay Bien Nacido Vineyard has turned out very nicely. Aromatic and expressive, with lovely stone fruit character, the 2015 captures the more restrained style of the year. Apricot, chamomile and lightly honeyed tones give the wine its succulent, open-knit personality. This is very nicely done.
Vibrant and juicy, with concentrated raspberry, plum and cherry flavors that are filled with Asian spice and cedar notes. The long finish echoes with red fruit confit and savory accents.
Pale to medium ruby-purple in color, the 2015 Pinot Noir Acin has bright, lifted red cherry and raspberry notes with suggestions of Marmite toast, dried Mediterranean herbs and stewed tea. Medium-bodied with a lively acid backbone and chewy tannins defning the palate, it has loads of earthy nuances and ends on a sour cherry note.
The 2015 Pinot Noir Machado is a classic Sta. Rita Hills built on exuberance and racy, voluptuous fruit. There is fabulous drive to this creamy, layered Pinot with layers of flavor and texture, not to mention tons of pure appeal.
Pale ruby-purple colored, the 2015 Pinot Noir 3 D has a wonderfully fragrant perfume of lavender and potpourri over Bing cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry leaves notes with a touch of underbrush. Light to medium-bodied, there is a beautiful, quiet intensity in the mouth with a rugged backbone, finishing long and earthy.
A beautiful nose of lavender, cherry, blueberry and whiffs of conifer. The palate is delicate on entry with notes of lean forest floor and mint and full shadings of earth and cherry.
The 2015 Chardonnay (Sta. Rita Hills) is a gorgeous appellation-level wine. Apricot pit, peach, chamomile and lightly honeyed notes nicely fill out the wine's ample frame. A hint of reduction on the finish adds a layer of nuance, but without overpowering the wine. This is a superb showing from Brewer-Clifton's largest-production Chardonnay.
The 2015 Chardonnay is reared in a neutral barrel, with no malolactic fermentation. It has a full-on expressive nose of fresh grapefruit, white peaches and clotted cream with hints of fresh ginger and nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, the spicy citrus fruit explodes in the mouth with tons of energy and a racy backbone, finishing long and savory.
Moderately light ruby red color in the glass. Deep, dark fruit aromas including black cherry and blackberry with a hint of freshly turned earth and a bit of floral delight. Velvety in the mouth, with an intensely fruited core of sweet purple and black fruits that are expansive in the mouth and through the finish. There is a subtle petrol note and some astringent tannins on the finish that should ameliorate with more time in bottle.
