Delicious expression of Sonoma County fruit with soft mouthfeel and palate richness. It has tropical fruit and stone fruit flavors.
Syrah doesn't get a lot of love these days, which is a shame because it's so versatile. Cool-climate wines, from appellations like the Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast and Monterey, have a lot of savory notes that fit right in with the turkey and stuffing. Heading north, the 2011 Arrowood Saralee's Vineyard Syrah ($35), from the Russian River Valley, is bright and spicy, with dark berry, roasted meat, black pepper and drying tannins.

Here's another success story from the difficult 2011 vintage. It's well rounded and rich, with classic Cabernet character -- blackberry, cassis, mild dried herbs and soft fall spice are knit together in a fruit forward package that goes beyond a simple Napa fruit bomb. It's got age-worthy structure and a finish that's already keeping all the elements in balance. Nicely done! Contains 19% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec.
Hint of oak, aromas and flavors of red raspberries, bittersweet chocolate and cloves, smooth finish.
Fruity, with aromas and flavors of black cherries and milk chocolate, rich and smooth.
Hint of oak, flavors of black raspberries and bittersweet chocolate, hearty and smooth, long finish.
Sonoma Coast vineyards enjoy a long, cool growing season due to the moderating influence of the Pacific Ocean, and its fogs and winds that blow inland. This is perfect for slowly ripening grapes to develop complex flavours and nuances without lots of sugar that translates to heavy alcohol. Classic Californian Chardonnay with toast, oak and green apple on the nose. Full-bodied, and generously layered. Generous flavours of pear and peach on the palate with a long, dry finish and a hint of wild white flowers in a spring rain. Perfect for roast chicken or mild curries. This wine is matured in both new and seasoned French and American oak for seven months which rounds out the package with a toasty finish.
Such an elegant, yet expressive Californian Cabernet on the nose. Aromas of blackcurrant cassis mingle with dried herbs and cigar box. The palate opens to layers of dark fruit anise and smoke. Terrific balance, depth and length with a dry finish. Pair with filet mignon or lamb with rosemary.
Deep, dark, youthful red/purple colour, the bouquet showing some char-oak and rich sooty, smoky plum fruit. The black fruit aromas emerged the longer it aired in the glass. It's rich, full-bodied and smooth, with density and textural grip. The palate is intense, full-blooded, bright and assertive, with tremendous length and finish. A seriously good shiraz.
Focused and elegant, this red bursts with pure cherry and raspberry fruit, showing accents of violet and kirsch. Firms up on the finish, where dusty tannins reign. Best from 2016 through 2024.
Seriously delicious. Full of flavour, with rich damson plums and spicy black pepper held in check by silky tannins. Feel the sunshine in the fruit; the grip is firm, and the palate is led upwards in the final moments by a shot of juicy acidity. From grapes grown at elevation – meaning above the fog line – east of Angwin on Howell Mountain, this is an intense rendition of Cabernet without losing its balance. Highly recommended.
From the cool and wet harvest of 2011 winemaker Ted Edwards has crafted an elegant Cabernet Sauvignon that would fool most, who most likely would peg it as a Bordeaux. The tannins are firm and crisp and there is a leaness to the fruit on the palate, but not at the expense of flavor and complexity. This is a Napa Cab that will get even better after a few years in the bottle. It's not a muscle wine, but given the vintage it is definitely a remarkable achievement.
Freemark Abbey is most well-known for its splendid vineyard-designate Cabernets, winemaker Ted Edwards has always had a strong hand with Merlot and this vintage is more evidence, if any were needed. This vintage is bold and rich, showing aromas of black currant, black cherry and plum, with spice notes from oak aging. The tannins are firm on the finish, but those will soften with time.
Apple juice, pineapple and honey provide the central aromas, with a bit of citrus on the edges. It’s lean and mean on the palate, with fresh apple and pear cider flavors picking up some lemon before showing off a greener, tarter, slightly unripe side.
This Dark Lady - elegantly draped in deep folds of blackberry, licorice, and espresso - is faintly perfumed with seductive hints of clove, lavender, and vanilla. A breathtaking blend of 50 percent Cabernet Franc, 40 percent Merlot and 10 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2010 vintage provides a silky accompaniment to a tender veal Marsala.
