Reveals an impressive, saturated purple color, and a blackberry and and crème de cassis-scented nose... It has copious fruit... because this wine is certainly concentrated and very well-made just
Other very good efforts in the Grand Reserve program are the 1994 Grand Reserve Merlot... The Merlot exhibits medium body, plenty of mocha/coffee, ripe berry fruit, a soft texture, and fine finish. The 1994 Grand Reserve Merlot reveals tannin in the finish, but that component is not out of balance with the wine's concentration. At $40 a bottle, this wine hardly qualifies as a good value, but it should drink well for 6-8 years.
…is a deeper, richer wine with more color, body, and glycerin. Both of these Syrahs are made in a soft, round style meant to be drunk over the next 3-5 years.
The Bordeaux-like 1999 Grand Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon...Notions of cedar, tobacco, red and black currants emerge from this structured, muscular Cabernet, but high tannin dominates its personality.
Aromas of red currant, sour cherry, toffee and earth. Tightly wound and firm, even a big muscle bound, with elevated acidity keeping the sour cherry fruit under wraps today. Finishes with some greenness but the tannins are ripe.
Fresh pear, Fuji apple and peach flavors are appealing for their ripeness and juiciness in this straightforward style, with notes of ginger and toast on the finish. Drink now. 1,504 cases made.
Offers forward notes of raspberry and black cherry preserves, with touches of warmed licorice and rose hip, but the edges are just a touch blurry, and the underlying structure shows a hint of grain. Drink now through 2026. 352 cases made.
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Vintner's Reserve is blended with 5% Cabernet Franc, 4% Merlot, 3% Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot. It was matured for 14 months in French (52%) and American oak (28%). It has understated aromas of redcurrant and cherry, menthol, vanilla and allspice. The palate is full-bodied and somewhat rustic with ripe fruit, chewy tannins and muted freshness. Drink it over the next 2-3 years. 182,645 cases produced.
The nose of this unique Pinot shows a wealth of forest and underbrush aromas alongside a core of candied raspberry fruit. The palate is exceptionally dry with evergreen, pepper and espresso flavors dominating before a very tannic finish that is reminiscent of Aglianico.
Features fresh, lively flavors of lemon, green apple and lemon blossoms, with notes of fresh-grated ginger on the crisp finish. Drink now. 200,000 cases made.
This is simple stuff with a modicum of varietal character. Soft and a bit herbaceous, it leads with some candied black cherry, followed by black licorice, and mocha vanilla. A mid-week red and my choice match would be grilled hamburgers or flank steak. Ready to drink. The mix is 95% cabernet sauvignon, 2% syrah, 1% merlot, 1% petit verdot, and 1% cabernet franc.
Apple, peach and pear flavors show an appealing, firm juiciness in this white, with a touch of almond skin on the finish. Drink now. 50,000 cases made.
Deep red/purple; good colour. Banana skin, almost 'green walnut' aromas. Lean and a trifle under-fleshed. Rather stern tannins and tight structure, straightforward and unevolved. Not offering much at this stage. Certainly has a future.
With a spice box of woody oak, ginger and the richness of baked apricot, this wine presents as heavier than it is. There’s only moderate acidity to help balance.
Cedary savoriness accents the dried berry and cherry flavors. Crisp finish. Drink now.
Soft and silky, with modest cherry and strawberry blossom accents. Drink now.
Delivers a mix of pomegranate and raspberry, with a streak of red licorice. The lightly toasted finish has a slight rustic edge. Drink now.
Ripe and direct, revealing raspberry and red licorice notes that roll through, with sweet spice and toast on the finish. Drink now.
50% Zinfandel; 36% Syrah; 5% Petite Sirah; 9% other. Redolent of ripe berries and plums on the nose and geared to fairly direct, very like-minded fruit in taste, this easy going wine is balanced and rounded in feel with a trim of next-to-unnoticeable tannins. It is far from soul-stirring stuff, but it is a tasty, well-made effort that is priced right for unceremonious drinking with summery grilled meats of all kinds. Good value.
19% Petite Sirah; 3% Syrah. Sporting enough blackberry fruit to work its way into clear varietal territory and ripe to the point of flirting with notes of dark chocolate throughout its length, this beefy youngster wants for a little more brightness and bounce and its evident finishing tannins speak clearly of its considerable percentage of Petite Sirah.
Although a bit reluctant to find specific Pinot Noir focus in its mildly mushroomy aromas, this pleasantly rounded, medium-full-bodied wine shapes up far better once in the mouth and tastes of spotlessly clean, straightforward, cherry-like fruit. It gets it right in terms of varietal texture, even if it could do with a little more brightness and bounce, and it is best tagged for drinking in the coming year.
This wine is easygoing, fruity and rather soft in texture, showing jammy strawberry and blueberry flavors and mild tannins.
Oaky and tannic up front, this wine settles into a balanced space of pencil shavings, cedar and red currant. Plum and dark-cherry flavors follow.
Rich, rounded and syrupy in brown sugar, this Merlot-driven blend is generous in oak and body weight, with layered flavors of blackberry and cherry. A hint of herb meets dark-chocolate and mocha flavors that persist on the finish.
This approachable white offers a sweetness of stone fruit, apple and melon, lightbodied in approach, with both neutral oak and stainless-steel aging.
