Smooth and juicy with clean, fresh fruit and lively acidity; tangy and balanced, long and crisp.
This midnight purple colored red blend from Murphy Goode opens with a mild black raspberry bouquet with a hint of boysenberry. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced and a little juicy. The flavor profile is black plum with notes of oak and gentle minerality. I also detected a hint of black raspberry and black cherry towards the end. The finish is dry and its fruit flavors and mild tannins fade away nicely. This is a nice everyday offering that is food friendly and versatile. I would pair it with meat lasagna or spaghetti with meatballs. 89 points. Very good.
Fragrant, silky, effusive. An effusive California Cabernet, which doles out generous aromas of cassis and blueberries, sarsaparilla, mocha a leather. The palate is equally as alluring and approachable; it is fresh and jammy with a silky texture. A mouthfilling and modern wine with sweet tannins.
This is a straight-up, well-structured and moderately tannic wine with medium to full body, firm acidity and an almost tangy texture. It dusts black-cherry and cranberry flavors with hints of spicy oak and dark chocolate that continue to develop on the palate and finish.
This medium-bodied wine offers ample fresh fruit flavors and a smooth texture that’s not too tannic or tight on the palate. It smells like red cherries and plums, tastes almost like strawberries, and carries that fruity freshness through the finish. It’s a well-made wine to enjoy soon.
This wine's black tannins provide weight and grip, yielding scents of tea leaf and black olives. Its bitter edge will benefit from a braise.
This has the cushioned softness and the green peppery character of Alexander Valley cabernet, finishing smooth and gentle. The tannins add some weight in their coffee and chocolate-scented extract.
Bright and lush with racy acidity and ripe blackberry fruit and clean; tangy finish; long, dense and charming.
The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Terra a Lago is a richly fruity, deep ruby, chunky style of Cabernet that is satisfying, but lacks the complexity to merit an outstanding score. It is well-made, medium to full-bodied, and pleasant.
Fresh black cherry flavors runs through this simple, well-made cabernet. The juicy red fruit trumps earthy tannins. A good match for steaks off the grill.
This dark red colored Zinfandel from Murphy Goode opens with a strawberry and red plum bouquet with hints of pencil shavings and oak. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced and smooth. The flavor profile is a tasty cherry with notes of old oak. We also detected some hints of espresso, strawberry and a touch of minerality. The finish is dry and its flavors and gentle tannins drift away nicely. The Panel found this Zin to be food friendly and would suggest pairing it with a grilled salmon burger. 89 points. Very good.
Plush and appealingly ripe, with dusty raspberry aromas and zesty black cherry, dried sage and spice flavors.
Soft, supple and ripe, but light-footed, with notes of baked cherry, toasty oak and spice. Drink now through 2020.
This ripe, zesty Zin features fresh raspberry and vanilla aromas, leading to jammy black cherry, spice and caramel flavors.
This ripe, moderately full-bodied offering reminds that ripeness does not necessarily come at the expense of good balance, for, while it claims a 15.5% abv on the label, it is a deep, impressively fruity wine that shows surprisingly good manners. Marked by a keen sense of berries from beginning to end and holding on for a long finish, this is one to serve alongside richer foods such a slow-roasted pork shoulder.
Sporting lots and lots of keenly defined fruit and winning the nod for very fine balance, this solid, firmly structured young Zin is redolent of ripe berries, sweet oak and shows a nice touch of accenting oak. While it is just tannic enough to commend a few years of keeping, and that is what we recommend, it is never so stern or astringent as to prevent earlier enjoyment with juicy cuts of roasted pork.
Here is a big, rich, impressively stuffed Zinfandel that keys keenly on juicy, blackberry-like fruit, and, if hinting at chocolate, it does so without crossing the line into late-harvest ripeness. It is full, fleshy and just a touch firm in structure, and while tasty now, it has room for improvement with age. It is no simple gulper and wants drinking up with richly seasoned pork roasts and stews.
This blend of Sauvignon Blanc and a small amount of Semillon is mostly tank fermented, with less than 5% of the juice undergoing barrel fermentation and then aging in French oak. The aromas are mineral and citrus with subtle fig notes, while the flavors show more stone fruit and minerality. It has good texture and plenty of fruit, with a hint of heat in the finish from the 13.5% alcohol.
This pale straw colored Sauvignon Blanc opens with a fragrant and attractive apple and pineapple bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied and balanced between its acidity and fruit. The flavor profile is an Anjou pear and mild grapefruit blend with notes of nicely integrated minerality and tangerine. I also detected hints of white pepper and a touch of peach pit towards the end. The finish is dry and its flavors fade away nicely. This is a good value Sauvignon Blanc that will be quite refreshing on a hot summer day. I would serve it chicken lo-mein. 89 points. Very good.
Very pleasant with notes of lemongrass and chives. Not much oak. Medium-bodied and mouth-watering.
An excellent wine for a cocktail moment or a light repast, the 2015 Murphy-Goode California Chardonnay was made to just open and enjoy. The wine's ripe apple and peach aroma lead into an easy-going palate and a juicy finish. 89 points.
Aromas of chocolate, tar and blackberries follow through to a full body, ripe fruit and spicy character. Rich and chewy. Some charcoal and tar undertones. Better in 2018.
Bright medium ruby. Aromas of blackberry, licorice and tobacco leaf lifted by a violet topnote. Round and fine-grained, with good breadth to the dark berry and herb flavors. Finishes with fairly round but slightly dry tannins and a musky sweetness. Mt. Brave is a new Napa Valley project under the Jackson Family Wines umbrella.
Delivers a complex range of flavors built around a core of spicy pear, hazelnut, clove and citrus. Firm acidity gives it nice structure, too, finishing long and clean. Drink now through 2008.
Medium ruby color, spicy red cherry aromas with some berry notes; rich, ripe berry and red cherry flavors, some oak and earthy notes; some tannin; good structure and balance; long finish. Earthy Pinot that's medium bodied and a good match for a dish featuring mushrooms.
