There’s an amazing array of fruit on the nose, from the deep richness of blackberry to the tartness of cranberry, all set against wet-slate minerality and dashes of clove cigarettes, soy sauce and white pepper. It proves light and airy on the well-balanced palate, with dark fruit, sandalwood spice and the right amount of acidity and tannins to finish clean.
From American Jess Jackson’s vineyard in St.-Emilion (run by the incomparable Pierre Seillan), the 2010 Lassegue possesses an opaque purple color as well as a dense, muscular, masculine style displaying lots of black cherry and black currant fruit intermixed with hints of new oak and graphite. Full-bodied but backward, this cuvee (like most of Seillan’s wines) is built for the long haul. It requires 5-7 years of patience and should last for 20+ years.
Damp forest floor give this wine a strong character of earthiness and wintery, savory notes, surrounded by intense black cherry, oak and firm, sizable tannins. Enjoyable now, the wine also shows promise for the future, able to relax through 2020.

Evoking the richness and slightly tart deliciousness of a strawberry-rhubarb compote, this is a bright, vibrant and chewy Pinot, its dry tannins peaking on the finish. Ripe and dense but with surprising brightness and assertiveness.
Ethereal and light, this is an understated Chardonnay for the producer, who offers several variations on the grape this vintage, this one sourced from an Eastside Road estate vineyard. Beeswax, tropical papaya and pear are the highlights, with a finish dusted in vanilla.
Clean as a whistle, mid-density in weight and volume and evident if moderate oakiness lifting its mix of ripe and slight green apple fruitiness, this wine is exactly what a $20 Chardonnay should be. It is somewhat rounded in texture with enough youthful energy for balance, and it demands no further aging to be rewarding in the near term yet can age a bit if that is your wont.
Toffee, cinnamon apples and a hefty swirl of smoke arise on the nose from the winery’s entry-level bottling. The palate shows caramelized pears, nicely bitter lemon rinds and warm, buttered nut toffee note that carries from first sip to the finish.
This warm-climate wine is fulsome and hearty in baked Asian pear and candied ginger. A dried-fruit quality stands out on the buxom palate, a buttery taste of dried apricot drizzled in honey and brioche.
Scents of lemon-cake icing meet the pretty yet not treacly tropical aromatics of white flowers on this barely off-dry wine. The sweetness is noticeable on the palate but far from overdone, with clean flavors of lemon custard, tangerine juice and a Key-lime finish.
